Official unlock of my iPhone

Spec: Iphone 4
iOS - 4.0.1

I bought iphone from AT&T under 2 years contract, but broke it after paying all extra fee. But they didn't unlock my iPhone, saying that I need to contact apple for that!!

Then my iphone kept as antique piece for one year, visiting different phone technicians to check whether they can unlock...

Finally some guy unlocked it for me and to my surprise, he had used gevey sim for that....So whenever I restart my phone - dial 112(not to call cops!!) then on and off Airplane mode...all the pain....then it searches for a while....if the network does not show up, restart the phone and call 112 again !!

But gevey sim was still a master. I tried sim of different countries in this, and all worked fine.

Now the problem is I cannot update my iOS and whenever I find some good apps in Apple store, it says incompatible with my iOS :-(

Again my iphone started becoming antique piece, where I cannot use any latest softwares, and also Apple never provides us old versions of any application.

But recently I found some blogs saying that Apple has started un-locking iPhone 4....Why should I not give a try?? Called the customer care, this time  it went pretty simple. He asked me three questions:

Account Number
Last 5 digit of SSN
IMEI number

Alas, he agreed to unlock it, and told that in one week I will get an e-mail with the instructions. This time ATT was pretty fast..on next day I got the e-mail - Simple steps

Back up ..... Then restore

So far so good, But I was not sure will it work for my phone, because already I have unlocked it...

To try my fate, removed my gevey sim, and placed the new sim in tray, connected my iphone, backed up...also backed up all my purchases. Then clicked on restore option.....

Now waiting minutes....some blah blah command boxes, click ok.....wait wait wait ...and then I got the error - Restore failed!!!!! error 1602.

I googled the error, iphone site says it is normal, I just need to change the usb port :

So fine, changed the port, all restoration done, phone restarted.

Now I see only Chinese in the screen....luckily there is an option to change the language....Also in the itunes, it asks if I want to restore my previous back up, which I said Yes.

Now all back ups are restored. Restarted the phone, couple of next - next clicks and finally the phone is UP!!!

My contacts, messages, notes ...every thing back. Then I restored all my purchases using sync option.

My iPhone is upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 ... Happy

Why I started blogging

It was a long journey, started from the day I got an online account on hotmail.com. I was amazed to see that I can send a message to others without any postage stamp and acknowledgment letter. Then new email ids came into existence, of course, some are fake.
Switching from hotmail to yahoo mail was not by an accident, but after a complete thought process with (Ideas will be expanded after referring wikipedia - IWBEARW) for one minute as hotmail was no more free. There I found yahoo's sibiling - yahoo group.
Yahoo group acted as way of communication with group-of-friends and a chance to boast (Whenever possible) about all the small things happening in my life.
Alas, Orkut sprunged like any thing in India and as I learned Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest, I switched without a second thought. (To be frank, one of my friend advised). There lies a vast chance to show-off. Any thing we write, will be read.
Journey from Orkut to Facebook and then to twitter was in lightning speed, thanks to mass-medias and Indian mentality of aping the western. Who uses Orkut in America? Youngsters use Facebook and older generation who are/aspire to be intellectual/celebrities/writers etc 'Tweet'. Eventually I had to start tweeting and facing (?).
On a Sunday morning, unusually I saw the sunrise, and as the old say - "Wake up early, to stay bright", I got the bright idea of blogging.
So what is the purpose - as people select the check box in OK&FB, 1) Friends 2) Networking 3)Dating (PHEW), actual reason for all these activities are to pacify the long passion of mankind to get the fame.
They make friends - To get fame
They Network - Ditto
They Date - Ditto
They earn - Ditto
They spend - Ditto
They abstain from worldly things - Ditto (Some people get more fame by leaving wealth than by amassing wealth).
